MUSIC TIP OF THE MONTH: PERCUSSIONISTS

As a percussionist, it’s not always easy to practice when you don’t have access to your drums, especially during spring break. A great way to keep your skills sharp without an instrument is air drumming. This technique lets you practice stick control, hand-foot coordination, and rhythm anywhere. Start by visualizing your drum kit—picture where each drum and cymbal is placed. Then, practice your stick grip, rebound, and wrist motion in the air, mimicking the exact movements you'd use on the drums. Air drum along with the music you're learning, focusing on timing, dynamics, and staying in sync with the beat. Use a metronome to help stay locked in. Air drumming helps develop muscle memory, fine-tunes your timing, and keeps you connected to the music even when you can’t physically play. Plus, you can do it anywhere—whether you're at the park, on a bus, or at home. This practice method is an excellent way to stay sharp and make the most of your time, no matter where you are!

Spring: The Season of Inspiration for Musicians

Spring is one of the most exciting times of the year for musicians, offering a fresh wave of energy and a wealth of live performances. After a long winter, the season brings a variety of concerts, recitals, and events that can reignite your creativity. From school choir and orchestra concerts to musical theater productions and professional recitals, these performances are the perfect opportunity to refresh your musical spirit and keep your inspiration at its peak.

For music students, spring can be especially draining with exams, deadlines, and year-end projects looming. This stress can make it difficult to stay motivated and lose sight of your creative goals. However, attending live performances during this time provides a much-needed balance. These events remind us of why we love music, offering fresh ideas, new styles, and diverse interpretations that reignite our passion for the art form.

Experiencing live music in person is essential to keeping your musical "jar" full. Whether it’s a local choir performance or a full-scale musical production, these events provide exposure to new sounds and ideas that can inspire your own playing or composition. Plus, they offer the chance to connect with other musicians and gain new perspectives on the music world.

To find performances near you, keep an eye on local websites, Facebook events, and flyers posted around town. We also display upcoming performances on our bulletin boards and share them in our newsletters. Don’t forget to join us for our upcoming recital this summer, it’s a perfect way to experience and celebrate the talent in our community!

Littleton School of Music: Vibrant Murals Bring Our Space to Life!

At Littleton School of Music, we’re always looking for new ways to make our learning environment as inspiring and inviting as possible. We believe that a creative and welcoming space fosters a deeper connection to the music students are learning. That’s why we’re excited to share our latest project—painting vibrant murals in each of our lesson rooms! These murals are designed to reflect the unique personalities of our students and the diverse range of instruments we teach. From soaring pianos to lively drums, each room has its own artistic flavor, helping to create a dynamic atmosphere where creativity and music flourish. We hope these murals not only enhance the aesthetic of our space but also inspire students to explore new sounds and ideas in their musical journey.

The murals are an ongoing effort to bring color and life to our space, making it a place where students feel inspired to grow as musicians. We’re thrilled to feature the work of talented artist Eric Weatherford (who you can learn more about at oddwallpainting.com). His work truly brings our vision to life, adding a unique touch to each room that complements the vibrant energy of our students. We’re grateful to have him as part of our artistic journey and excited to see how his work continues to inspire all who walk through our doors.
We want our school to feel like a second home for our students, where they can not only learn but also feel comfortable and encouraged to express themselves. We’re always open to suggestions from our parents and community. If you have any ideas about how we can make our spaces more comfortable, inviting, or inspiring, please don’t hesitate to let us know!Check out the photos above we included of just a few of our new murals, and stay tuned for more exciting updates as we continue to bring art and music together to create a truly inspiring learning environment!
